Pace 56 Solo Upgrade Utility (Amiga version), Firmware release V2.04
====================================================================
DISCLAIMER
----------
You should be aware that there is an extremely slim chance that this
upgrader could fail, resulting in "dead" Solo modem :-( Normally, should
this occur, Pace would repair/replace the defective unit for free, under
warranty. However, since PMC Electronics have gone into receivership,
this is no longer the case - you will not be able to get your Solo
repaired. Therefore, any use of this upgrader will be at your own risk -
I (Oliver Roberts) cannot be held responsible for any damage to your
Solo modem. FYI, the same risk applies to the PC version of the upgrader.
Minimum requirements
--------------------
Amiga computer equipped with a 68020 cpu, OS 2.04, 2Mb free ram.
(recommended: OS 3.x, fast third-party serial port)
Serial port speed
-----------------
It is extremely IMPORTANT that you set the serial speed correctly for
your system. If you will be performing the upgrade via the Amiga's
internal serial port, you MUST NOT set the speed above 38400, otherwise
this upgrader is likely to fail! Unless you own a fast CPU (040/060),
you should leave the speed at the default (19200). However, if you are
using a fast third-party serial port (e.g. Surf Squirrel, Whippet, I/O
Extender, Multiface, HyperCOM, etc), you can safely set the speed to
115200 bps.
The light show
--------------
At various stages during the upgrade process, the 5 backlit buttons will
flash, as well as the send/receive lights. This is normal, so there's
no need to worry when this happens! During the firmware upgrade stage,
the send light will mostly be on, and when complete the 5 backlit buttons
will light up for a few seconds. During the loading of messages the
backlit buttons will cycle from left to right, and the send/receive lights
will flash as the data is transferred. If the "Flash init." option is
enabled, the backlit buttons will cycle from right to left for
approximately 1 minute soon after the loading of messages stage has
started, before reverting to the left to right sequence. This is only
a rough guide - the exact sequence may be different depending on the
current firmware version of your modem.
